Inspiration and influence can come from many different places. Artists often express their feelings or interests, sometimes even life experiences through their work. Lana and her sister, Lily, are no exception. Since their teenage years of playing Dungeons and Dragons, or reading comic books, the Wachowskis have always been interested and entertained by Science-Fiction/Fantasy. You can see this influence in their films. Whether they wrote the screenplay, directed, or produced for a film. In fact you see it in any project they have worked on. For example their newest full length movie, Jupiter Ascending is a science fiction movie that follows a young woman who finds out she is the heir of an intergalactic throne, and must fight to defend the people of earth against aliens. The film stars big headline actors such as Channing Tatum, and Mila Kunis. Lana’s love for comic books as a teen stuck with her. The Wachowski sisters both worked on a comic book for Marvel called “Ectokid”. Lana’s writing skills don’t stop there, she also adapts novel into screenplays. Such as the popular dystopian novel V for Vendetta by Alan Moore, now a popular movie. It was even nominated for best script by The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. The film industry doesn’t stop at full length movies, and screenplays, Lana even has her own Netflix Series! Sense8 is a science-fiction series that follows different people around the world that have superpowers. Lana also uses this show as an outlet to touch on real world problems, such as people being harassed for being different. This just proves Lana’s talent as a director and writer. The way you make a TV series is much different from full length movies, it requires a whole different planning system. Lana had no trouble hitting the curve. The Wachowski’s don’t just choose random projects, they choose films that will interest them and that they will put their heart into. Their love for science-fiction/fantasy has given us multiple great works, such as the all time favorite The Matrix and a new brain twister Cloud Atlas.
